We really haven’t had time to find someone new for us to listen to but life is good. And that’s what we actually thought when we listened to JUNGSU and his EP “Tear Therapy”
JUNGSU is a Korean rapper currently staying in LA, California attending the UCLA and became a prolific music listener since 5th Grade. The first studio EP is made up of six tracks and is made available on Soundcloud, Youtube, Apple Music, Spotify and iTunes. We really love how his voice surprises you and songs that steer away from the usual “flex” type of music. Although the album starts on a dark tone with “Ocean Waves”, it moves seamlessly to a lighter tone as it ends with “Good Life”. “Broken” feels like a prayer we can all say, actually, everything does.
“(…) I wish I could pursue what I want to express from the bottom of my heart, instead of conforming to the common elements and trend of hip hop.”
We had a quick chat with him and learned that he already has already has a future he wants. “I aspire to establish myself as an artist (in the Korean Hip Hop scene and beyond) to continue sharing the message of hope in the midst of darkness. I don’t have a specific record label in mind, however, I wish I could pursue what I want to express from the bottom of my heart, instead of conforming to the common elements and trend of hip hop,” he said.
JUNGSU also named BeWhy as a rapper he looks up to and someone he shares the the counter narrative to mainstream hiphop as he does. Given the quality of his music, we’re hoping he gets the attention he deserves to make it. Connect with JUNGSU on Instagram and stream his music here.
